FamilyIgloo Vision : Empowering families through knowledge and networking

FamilyIgloo was developed to serve as an informative, safe, fun and synergistic social family network site. With today’s ever increasing hectic lifestyles, getting informed about family related news and connecting with likeminded peers is often a difficult task to accomplish. Time and again couples with young children have limited occasion to socialize outside the family unit, which becomes one of our primary goals.
We hope that this site will allow families to get informed about some of the latest family related web articles, enforce long distance ties, get to know their neighborhood, find families with similar outdoor/indoor hobbies, and share photos, videos, and precious moments with selected members. We also hope that families will get to meet each other in a SECURE environment such as family excursions, park barbecues, dining out, birthday parties, hiking out, moms’ night out, fathers’ night out and toys exchange and resale.

Some few examples include:
-Forming online PTA social groups to share photos and videos privately.
-Forming social groups and forums for families with children with chronic diseases such as cerebral palsy and seizure
-Forming private groups for family relatives and friends in order to strengthen the familial bonds
-Forming online social groups for the neighborhood watch programs and local churches

Chores For Kids - Teach Responsibility and Independence

Chores for kids are good for everyone in the family. As parents we need the help around the house while teaching our kids to be self sufficient in life. Kids need chores to teach them responsibility and to be a contributing member to the family, which will teach them to be a contributing member to society later in life. Not only are the above mentioned reasons chores for kids are great, you'll be amazed at how much more organized you will be once you get your kids to do their chores.

First, let's talk more about the importance behind chores and why they are good for our kids. Chores are important early life lessons. One of my favorite psychologists, Alfred Adler, practiced around the same time as Freud. Adler was considered every man's psychologist while Freud was a psychologist to the elite. Adler said that everyone's behavior is purposeful. In other words, there's a reason why we do what we do. He also said we all have a basic need to belong and be accepted by others. Why am I mentioning Adler, and what the heck does he have to do with chores for kids? Well, I apply his basic teachings to raising kids. It's simple, their behavior is purposeful, and they have a need to belong and be accepted, and giving them chores satisfies these two needs.

Do you ever notice your kids act up when you're trying to cook dinner, or you're on the phone? Although we may think they're acting up to annoy us, they're really just trying to get our attention...negative or otherwise. That's the purpose behind the bad behavior. So, how do you turn that purposeful behavior around to something positive? Give them something productive to do. Chores! They can set the table while you make dinner, dust the floor boards while you're on the phone, etc. Get creative and give them something productive and positive to do.

Chores for kids works two-fold, they turn negative purposeful behavior into something positive, and they satisfy your child's need to belong and be accepted by others. We all have a need to belong and be accepted by others, and although they may not like to do chores, I have found giving kids age appropriate chores and explaining to them the reason for the chores is a great way to: teach responsibility, teach independence, boosts their self-esteem, and they feel like a contributing member to the family. That being said, if you utilize chores for kids to teach them to be a positive contributing member to the family, they will then become positive contributing member to society later in life.
